Why start STEM education so young?

Did you know that America consistently ranks poorly against other countries in STEM subjects? We place 25th in math and 17th in science out of 31 countries ranked by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Only about 18 percent of high school seniors perform at or above proficiency in science subjects, according to the National Math and Science Initiative.

These alarming numbers are forcing America to go back to the chalkboard and evaluate where we stand in an evolving STEM world.

If your student attends public school in California, chances are they aren’t getting the STEM education required to keep up in a rapidly tech-focused world. Does your child learn programming, computer science, engineering, or software development in their classroom?

According to, the third best job in the United States in 2015 was Software Developer.

Other jobs on the Top 25 list included Computer Systems Analyst, Web Developer, Mechanical Engineer, and IT Manager. More than 75% of jobs were in STEM industries!

Your child can be successful in anything they aspire to be, regardless of how early they started. Hard work will get you places! But wouldn’t it be better to get your student learning programming, engineering, and technology-based subjects from a young age?

These skills are best honed over time. Repetition and experience are the keys to successful learning.

At BrainStorm STEM Education, we’re preparing kids for the world of tomorrow, today. Our students are programming robots, developing their own apps, and creating remarkable projects in 3D modeling and 3D printing.

You’d be astounded at what your child can accomplish on their own once they’ve learned the basics.

Our spring classes begin on February 22nd and continue for six weeks. Give us a try! If you aren’t completely satisfied with your child’s education here, we’ll refund the cost or book your child on a different course. We’re committed to your child’s education and opportunities.

Code-A-Thon and Minecraft for Moms & Dads

Hi Brainiacs!

Big things are happening at BrainStorm this month! We really want to kick 2016 off right, so we’re hosting three exciting special events all during the month of January. In addition to our 4:30PM – 6:30PM weekday classes, you also have an opportunity to sign up for our Code-A-Thon, Minecraft for Moms & Dads, and a Boy Scout Robotics Merit Badge Workshop.

Before I describe our special events, I should note that you can use the 25% off code for ANY of these! If you like our Facebook page you’ll find an offer you can have sent directly to your email. After you do that, come back here and read on about what we have scheduled!

Monday, January 18, 2016 | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Only $99!

Whether your child has programmed a robot to do their chores for them or has never taken a coding class, this all-day event caters to everyone. We will be fully staffed to help each child move through lessons at their own pace. We’re splitting up age groups, too: 6 – 9 and 10 – 14. We’ll delve in to coding with a sampler of our best coding classes: Scratch Programming, Minecraft University: Python Modding, Minecraft University: Robotics Programming, and more! This is an awesome opportunity to introduce your child to coding or to improve their proficiency. Like any language, programming is best learned through repetition. Please send your student with a packed lunch and a small snack (no nuts, please!).

Thursday, January 21, 2016 | 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM | $29 | Parents and educators welcome!

What is Minecraft? How does my kid join a server? Who are they playing with? Where is the Nether? Should I be worried about the “creepers”? Finally: the answers to all of your burning questions! Join us for a two-hour class covering ALL the basics! You will actually sit down at our laptops to learn how to play. We’ll then discuss the different versions of Minecraft, game modes, joining a server, creating a server, in-game violence, multi-player mini games, and more. Come prepared with your questions! Please note that this event is for adults only, and we do not have staff available for childcare.

Sunday, January 17, 2016 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM | $45

By popular demand: a Robotics Merit Badge workshop using LEGO MindStorms and EV3 technology! This workshop will cover everything you need to get the robotics badge, including robotics safety, the robotics industry, and general knowledge. Scouts will then design, build, program, and test a robot. We’ll finish the workshop with each Boy Scout demonstrating what he’s accomplished! A complete MindStorms EV3 kit would cost upwards of $350. This opportunity to earn the Robotics badge costs just $45 – but only here at BrainStorm on January 17th. Robotics is an incredibly exciting and dynamic field that has transformed into the premier vehicle for hands-on delivery of science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. Have your scout bring a blue card for our BSA certified counselor to sign off on.

Make sure to check out our after school schedule as well. We have TWELVE exciting classes starting this week, and spots are still open! Join us for courses like 3D Printing, LEGO Animation, Young Einsteins: STEM Lab, BattleBots, Minecraft University: DinoCraft, and more!

Thank you for reading. We hope to see you at BrainStorm soon!

To your success,

The BrainStorm Team

Hi, Brainiacs!

BrainStorm Irvine Lobby

Hey everyone! Welcome to the BrainBlog. With so many new things happening each month (and week!) at BrainStorm STEM Education, this is the perfect place to keep our families in the know.

Along with the complete re-design of our website, you might have noticed hat brand-new courses like “Minecraft University: Dinocraft”, “Hot Wheels Speedometry”, “Young Einsteins: STEM Lab!” have been added to our schedule for January. More in-depth information about these courses will be featured here soon. Make sure you’re subscribed so you never miss a thing!

We have been overwhelmed with support this year, and are wrapping up 2015 with a ton of classes both here at BrainStorm and in over 100 elementary schools in the area. We’ve had the pleasure of attending a FIRST LEGO League competition with not one but TWO awesome BrainStorm teams, held several Merit Badge workshops for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, and donated our time to several local STEM fairs.

Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math are our bread and butter at BrainStorm. We consider these fields to be art forms, and are passionate about bringing new curriculum to students every day.

Thanks for checking out our very first blog post. You’ll be hearing a lot more from us soon!

Happy New Year to you and your family. We wish you all the best!
